How to make a realistic radio voice without using EQ [with sound source]

This is yosi.

I was curious about how to make a radio voice, so I looked it up and found that most of them use EQ.

It certainly looks similar, but to be honest, it's a little different.

It's more evidence than theory, so listen and compare the following.

Which one feels like the radio voice you imagine?

Original voice

1 was made with EQ.

2 was made using a certain method.

Doesn't 2 feel like a radio voice?
Somehow, it's like a radio heard from a radio-cassette speaker.

If you want to have fun, this plugin is recommended.

You can easily create an old radio-like sound just by selecting a preset.

What is Radio Voice?

I think most people think of radio voice as a lo-fi sound from a small speaker.

So if Hi and Low are cut and Mid is lifted, it will sound like a radio.

However, this is just like a radio, not a realistic radio voice.

And Why,Small speakerThis is because it cannot be reproduced.

So how do you reproduce it?

If you're reading this blog post, you've probably noticed it from the beginning,

Use the IR acquired with a small speaker.

This blog covers quite a lot about IR, so if you are interested, please take a look.

Now that the introduction is a little longer, I will explain how to make a radio voice.

How to make a radio voice using IR

Advance preparation

Necessary software

-You need a DAW or waveform editing software that can use VST.

If you don't have a DAW, you can use VST for free waveform editing software.WavosaurI think that is good.

Method

It's insanely easy.Simply select an IR that sounds like a radio voice.

This time, I am using "Small speaker mono.wav".

The point is to make the balance between DRY and WET of the effect completely WET.

Please refer to this article for how to add IR to Fruity Conbolver of FL Studio.

Also, if you want to emphasize the radio-likeness, it is also effective to use two steps. After that, if you add a little noise, it will be more like a radio.

Here is the addition of noise by multiplying "Small speaker mono.wav" in two steps.

After mixing the noise, apply compression for a more natural feel.

I wrote how to make a sequel radio sound.

This article also explains where to add noise and use sidechains.

Summary of radio voice

How is it?I think I made a simple and fairly realistic radio voice.

Of course, I think it's also possible to use EQ to get closer to the sound you like.

I think that if you apply this to the whole orchestra or just to the drums, it will create a good atmosphere again. Please try various things.

Another option is to use the following plugins:
