This time, I will explain how to record the movements of operating synths and effects from a MIDI controller as automation.
The discussion is based on the assumption that parameters such as the sound source move with the MIDI controller, so if you have not set the MIDI controller, please refer to the following article.
This article will be sent with the following contents.
・ Edit the recorded automation
Record automation in real time from a MIDI controller
We will actually record the movement of the MIDI controller.
Preparation
First, try moving the MIDI controller and see if the "Hint panel" knob icon glows.
Following full throttleGR-8I will explain using.
(If it's freeVitalRecommended next to)
Next, enter a MIDI note and paste it into the playlist.
Set to "SONG" mode and click the record button.
At this time, a dialog will appear asking you what to record.
Click the third "Notes and automation" from the top.
Click the play button to play it, so move the MIDI controller as you like.
I prepared a video.
The movement of the MIDI controller was recorded as follows.
Edit recorded automation
Of course, I think you'll want to edit automation.
There are three ways to edit.
・ Edit from the event editor
・ Convert to an automation clip before editing
Edit from the piano roll
This method is used when you want to make a simple correction.
Other than that, the method introduced below is basically good.
First, double-click the clip to open the piano roll.
If you open "Control" below, the name of the sound source that recorded the automation and the parameter name will be displayed, so click it.
The movement of the MIDI controller is recorded as follows.
When editing, with the pencil icon selectedAlt You can draw smoothly by holding down the key and dragging.
I prepared a video.
After that, right-click and drag to draw a straight line.
However, since it does not adsorb to the grid, I think it is better to edit it after converting it to the automation clip introduced later.
Edit from the event editor
Normally, I think it is better to edit this way.
This is because it is easy to edit and it can only be converted to an automation clip from the event editor.
First, open the event editor.
Click the automated parameter.
Then click OPTION-> Last tweaked-> Edit events.
Then the Event Editor will be displayed as shown below.
The editing method is the same as for the piano roll.
To be clear, it's only hard to edit in the case of walking sea lions, so it's better to edit after converting to an automation clip.
Convert events to automation clips
Converting to an automation clip is very easy.
First, open the event editor by the second method.
Click "Edit"-> "Turn into automation clip" from ▼ on the upper left.
The "Decimate" dialog will appear. Adjust the "Threshold" and click "Accept". (The lower the "Threshold", the more accurately the curve will be reproduced, but the more points there will be, which will lead to a CPU load.)
It was converted to an automation clip as follows.
Since the clips only overlap, you can move it as follows.
In this state, the number of points is too large to edit, so you can easily adjust it using "Articulator Tools".
Please read here for details as it is explained in the following article.
Summary
Summarize.
-Automation cannot be recorded when a MIDI controller is assigned with MIDI Larn.
・ There are three ways to edit automation.
・ Editing automation is easier after converting to an automation clip.
It was a blind spot that I couldn't record automation when I was doing a little MIDI Larn.
But if you think about it, VST usually goes through Wrapper, but at the time when MIDI Larn is enabled, it seems that it is controlled without going through Wrapper.
That's why I think it's possible to record automation.
