How to use VCV Rack Explanation of E-Series

This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.

Synthesis TechnologyThis is an explanation of the E-Series based on Eurorack.

A fairly thick sound is transmitted from the video.

Moreover, although it is simple, the sound output is quite diverse.

No, this is cool, but it seems that it will not be available at the end of production ...
I found a note that there is a DIY kit, but I wonder if there is any more.

What is E-Series E340 CLOUD GENERATOR?

CLOCK FACE MODULAR STORE has a very easy-to-understand explanation, so I will quote it. (I deleted the link because the link was gone)

E340 Cloud Generator is an oscillator that has unique modulation performance and can generate 2/4/8 layers (selectable with a switch) sine wave and sawtooth wave. With the E340, you can easily produce a number of detuned waveforms without having to adjust a large number of oscillators, and easily create a fat detuned sound even in a modular manner.

If Spread and Chaos are set to 0, one pure sine wave and sawtooth wave will be output from the SINE and SAW outputs, respectively. By increasing Spread from 0, the eight sine waves and sawtooth waves begin to detune each other.andChaos and Chaos BandwidthIs a unique control of this module, with the Chaos control causing detune movement. The Chaos control randomly fluctuates the pitch of the VCO, and the Chaos BW controls the speed of this fluctuation. In slow settings, it produces a sound like a Leslie effect.

The E340 is also perfect for creating powerful bass sounds and so-called "Supersaw" sounds. You can also use SYNC input and FM input together, which will help you to create various "Clouds".

Explanation of each parameter

1-COARSE- Frequency control covers 8 octaves

2-FINE- Frequency control cover ~ 0.5 octave

3 – FM amount. – This is the attenuator for everything the CV is connected to the FM input jack.

4 – SPREAD amount. – SPREAD detunes the VCO around the center frequency (set by COARSE and FINE).Each VCO detunes a different amount, and some increase with pitch but others decrease.Note that this control is exponential: the detuning starts at a very small value (<1Hz), but increases sharply as more SPREADs are applied.

5 – CHAOS amount. – Adds filtered noise to the SPREAD effect. This causes each VCO to "sway" in a different way, adding an overall "thickness" to the spectrum.

6 – CHAOS BW amount. – It changes the bandwidth of filtered noise from narrowband to wideband in 6 steps. The wider the BW, the "faster" the "wiggle".

7 – DENSITY switch. Select the number of VCOs used (2, 4, or 8).If you select more VCOs, the amplitude will automatically decrease, so clipping is unlikely to occur when all VCOs are aligned. A setting of "2" is generally larger than a "4" or "8".

8 – 1V / OCT CV input. – This sets the base pitch for all VCOs (if SPREAD = 0).To set this accurately, there is a blue multi-turn trim pot along the top edge of the printed circuit board.

9 - FM CV input. Modulates the basic pitch of the VCO.

10 – SYNC input. Positive voltages above + 0.25V make the E340 VCO'hardsync'(both outputs are reset to -5V). The SYNC effect seems pretty interesting at higher SPREAD settings.

11-SPREAD CV.- This voltage is applied to the panel's SPEAD control.

12 – CHAOS CV input. This voltage is applied to the CHAOS control on the panel.

13 – CHAOS BW CV input. This voltage is applied to the CHAOS BW control on the panel.

14 – SAW OUT. This output (10V pk-pk) is a DC-coupled VCO (set by the DENSITY switch).

15 - SINE OUT. VCO sine wave instead of sawtooth wave.

Points of E-Series E340 CLOUD GENERATOR

There is a sawtooth wave from "SAW OUT" and a sine wave from "SINE OUT". Please take a look.

You can change the number of oscillators with "7 – DENSITY switch".
You can also go to Supersaw. At this time, if you increase the number, the volume will decrease.

If you set it to 7 with "8 – DENSITY switch", the balance will be poor unless you supplement the volume.

I tried to put a sine wave and a square wave with FM.

The sound will be quite intense.

When the Wave knob is on the far left, the LFO-XNUMX becomes a square wave on the far right of the sine wave and morphs.

I tried to record one shot using 340 E-Series E6s.

The side chain is hung from the middle with a string-like sound.

E-Series E340 CLOUD GENERATOR Summary

It is an OSC candidate that I would like if you like it soundly and start modular.

However, unfortunately, this product has been discontinued and it seems that it is difficult to obtain it.

The current product isE352It's like $ 469 + shipping. In Japan, it costs 58,900 yen + consumption tax, so I feel that individual imports are a little cheaper, but there is no compensation.

The sound is so various that it is incomparable to the E340, and it makes me nervous.

Wavetable morphing is too dangerous.
