How to make Voltage Modular work with Reaktor via MIDI 2
This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.
This article requires a paid Reaktor and Voltage Modular Core Library.
Core Library is not yetOn sale.
This time, we will use a module that uses the euclidean rhythm of the Reaktor User Library to play the Voltage Modular.
Integrate Voltage Modular with Reaktor via MIDI 2
Please refer to the previous article for the cooperation method.
Settings on the Rektor side
Download euclidean patch
First, look for the euclidean patch in the Rektor User Library.
Basically, no matter which one you download, it's easy because you just send the Gate to MIDI OUT.
In this articleEuclidean GatesIs used.
After downloading and unzipping the file, you can drag and drop "Euclidean Drums.ens" into Reaktor.
MIDI port settings
Display the following screen from the gear icon and set "Output port" of "MIDI".
This number can be any number, but it should be the same as the "Input port" number of the "Voltage Modular" set in the next step.
In the following example, specify 0.
Add MIDI OUT and connect
Click "EDIT" at the top of the screen.
Add "MIDI OUT" as before.
"MIDI OUT" has been added.
We will add a total of 4 MIDI OUTs, so change the label.
You can change the red frame part by double clicking.
Click EDIT to display the Structure.
First from Kick.
Connect the Gate connected to the Kick to MIDI OUT.
You can see that "Accent Gate" is connected to "Niji Kick".
Connect "Accent Gate" to "Gate" of "MIDI OUT" as shown below.
Voltage Modular settings
Load the Voltage Modular.
MIDI port settings
Display the following screen from the gear icon and set "Output port" of "MIDI".
This number can be any number, but it should be the same as the "Input port" number of the "Voltage Modular" set in the next step.
Now Reaktor and Voltage Modular MIDI are connected.
Module used in Kick
The modules used in Kick are as follows.
・ MIDI CHANNEL FILTER
・ Transistor 909 Kick
・ CONSOLE MIXER
I will explain briefly.
Gate enters "MIDI CHANNEL FILTER" from Reaktor's MIDI OUT.
Kick alone is fine, but adding snares and hi-hats (open and closed) will require separate channels.
(It's okay to divide it by MIDI notes, but it's less difficult if you don't touch Reaktor too much)
If you pass "MIDI CHANNEL FILTER", the information of only channel 1 will be entered in "MIDI IN".
If you put "GATE" of "MIDI IN" into "Transistor 909 Kick", Kick will sound.
After that, put "OUT" of "Transistor 909 Kick" in "CONSOLE MIXER" and connect "OUTPUT" to "MAIN OUTPUTS", and you should hear the sound.
Let's add the rest of the snare and hi-hat.
I prepared a video here.
The point is to separate Reaktor's "MIDI OUT" channels.
And Voltage Modular is to output "GATE" for each channel with "MIDI CHANNEL FILTER".
To be honest, it's not very interesting to ring this.
It doesn't mean modular at all.
So I tried to see what would happen if I added an LFO.
See the video for how to add an LFO. (it's simple.)
How to link Voltage Modular with Reaktor via MIDI 2 Summary
A little disappointing is that the Voltage Modular drum module has few parameters that can be controlled by CV.
It's a little big, but it seems more interesting to make a drum sound from an ordinary oscillator and control it with CV.
After that, Reaktor User Library has a terrifying patch, so it seems interesting to play Voltage Modular using a generator system. (It would be interesting to play a normal synth)
I will write an article if I try various things and find something interesting.
