ImageLine's FL Studio 21.1 Released (Explains the Update)

FL Studio 21.1 has been released.

Although it is a minor version upgrade, not only bug fixes but also new functions have been added.

The contents of the major update of FL Studio 21 are explained in detail in the following article, so please check it out.

FL Studio is always free to upgrade, so you can use new features without worrying about anything.

Now let's take a quick look at the new features in this version.

Download

You can download it from the official website.

The message "FL Studio needs to be unlocked" is displayed at startup after a major update.

I have written a separate article on how to do this, so please click here.

Explanation of update contents

  • FL Studio:
    • colored waveforms – General settings option to color code the frequency content of audio waveforms.Applies to browsers, playlists, sampler channels, etc.
    • MIDI control – New “external sync” mode and improved MIDI master clock stability. This allows FL Studio to "slave" to an external MIDI clock and play along with the external MIDI clock source.
    • automated updates – Option to automatically download FL Studio updates and apply them on next reboot.
  • piano roll
    • Snap to Scale – Piano roll option to snap notes to the selected scale when placing or moving notes.See note icon in the toolbar.
    • Menu > Tools > Scripts – The script is Python based and allows custom manipulation of piano roll data. There are some pre-made scripts, but you can also write your own.The script also has the ability to automatically create the user interface. For script sharing and discussion, piano roll scripting forum.
  • New & Updated Plugins
    • Hyper Chorus - Producer EditionThe Extreme Chorus FX plug-in that comes with the above.
    • Edison Declipper – New and improved AI-based de-clipping tool. You can restore recordings that were clipped due to level issues.
    • SliceX – Can be resized by dragging the bottom right corner.

colored waveforms

General settings option to color code the frequency content of the audio waveform.Applies to browsers, playlists, sampler channels, etc.

The waveform display is red for bass, yellow for middle, and blue for treble.

To change it, enable the "Colorful waveforms" option in "General settings" to make the waveform colorful.

I made a video of On and Off of "Colorful waveforms".

MIDI control

New "external sync" mode and improved MIDI master clock stability. This allows FL Studio to "slave" to an external MIDI clock and play along with the external MIDI clock source.

FL Studio now syncs to an external MIDI clock.

An external sequencer can be controlled as a server.

I think it's a very happy function for those who are doing live.

I didn't have affordable equipment, so I cue the official video.

automated updates

Option to automatically download FL Studio updates and apply them on next reboot.

Added an option to automatically download and apply updates when updates are released by accessing "Notifications" from the globe icon.

Since there is no update now, nothing is displayed.

Piano roll Snap to Scale

A piano roll option that snaps notes to the selected scale when placing or moving notes.See note icon in the toolbar.

If you specify a scale in the piano roll, it will snap to notes on that scale.

For example, if the key is B major, all the keys except B and E are black keys, so it looks like this.

The setting location is "View" -> "Scale highlighting" from ▲ on the upper left of the piano roll.

Snap ON/OFF can be done from the musical note icon in the menu.

Piano roll Menu > Tools > Script

You can now handle scripts in the piano roll.

The script is written in Python.

Even if you can't make it yourself, you can use 5 by default,Bulletin boardYou can use scripts uploaded by other users in .

It was said that it is good to put the script you made yourself in the following folder and use it.
(Probably because it is not inherited if it is the default location when the version is upgraded)

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Image-Line\FL Studio\Settings\Piano roll scripts

The existing scripts are in the following with a default installation.

C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 21\System\Config\Piano roll scripts

There is "Arpeggiator" in the script installed by default, but this can be used quite well.

I made a little video.

Hyper Chorus

2023 08 20 01x44 02

Producer EditionThe Extreme Chorus FX plug-in that comes with the above.

A new chorus plugin has been added.

Producer EditionMore users can use it for free.

Fruity EditionBUYThere is a need.

It is a little disappointing that the GUI cannot be resized.

I tried playing the preset with mono material.

Edison Declipper

New and improved AI-based de-clipping tool. You can restore recordings that were clipped due to level issues.

I cue the official video.

SliceX

You can resize it by dragging the bottom right corner.

It's only horizontal, but you can resize it quite freely.

Editing long files seems to be possible.

    We become indebted to.

I hear that a stem function will be added in FL21.2, is that true?
I can only confirm this from one article.
Honestly, I'm really happy because I was waiting for the Cerato sample sale for the stem.
I recently signed up for Loopcloud and have been using FLcloud for its convenience, so it would be great if you could use it in a similar way and have a wealth of sound sources.

I have a question, but I recently changed to an audio interface with a loopback function.
I want to record the browser sound in FL, but it doesn't work because of howling. What settings should I use?
If you set the input in the upper right corner of the mixer screen to the loopback of the interface, howling will occur.
    Thank you.

      Hello.

I hear that a stem function will be added in FL21.2, is that true?

      I did some research.
      This is it.
It doesn't seem to be in the current beta.

Serato Sample is recommended if you have an MPC-type MIDI controller.

I didn't know about FL Cloud.
      I'll try the beta soon.

I have a question, but I recently changed to an audio interface with a loopback function.

I don't know because it has a loopback function and doesn't use audio IF.
If you just want to record the sound of your browser, you can also do the following.

    Thank you for your reply.

Serato Sample is recommended if you have an MPC-type MIDI controller.

I feel like this has been said before, but is there a reason?
I can now operate Slice x using a PC keyboard.
    The Slice
I might buy it when there's a Cerato sale lol

It seems that the stem is not included in the current beta.
I haven't made it into beta because there were reports of bugs and frequent crashes when using the cloud, but will there be any problems if I make it beta and revert to the original version?

Loopback I thought it would be possible to record from a browser in a DAW without much research, but it seems like not many people use it that way.
You may have to adjust the FL settings and Windows sound settings.
I'll look into it a little more.
I was a little relieved when I heard that they didn't know lol
Up until now, no matter what I asked, I was always able to get accurate answers, so I was surprised at how much different my knowledge was lol.

Browser: Currently, I am sampling using loopback within Audacity.
I thought I could do this with a DAW, but it might not be that easy.
I had installed Voice Meter before purchasing the audio interface, but I stopped using it because I wanted to simplify the system.

      The Slice

The reason why it goes well with MPC-type MIDI controllers is because it goes well with the style of hitting the pads.
You can decide the timing when slicing by hitting the pad.
You can also set level, filter, attack, release, reverse, time stretch, and key shift for each slice.
What's interesting is that you can make multiple slices in the same place.
Each can be set separately, so one can be played in reverse and the other can be played normally, and you can also operate it as Poly, so you can harmonize with key shifts.
I highly recommend it if you want to create songs based on samples.
Please take a look at the demo.
(There's no need to buy it if it doesn't fit)

Beta versions are independent and do not affect existing environments.
Both will be able to start.
However, please note that song data saved in the beta cannot be opened from the current version.
You can only open it with the same version as the beta or later.

Loopback I thought it would be possible to record from a browser in a DAW without much research, but it seems like not many people use it that way.
You may have to adjust the FL settings and Windows sound settings.

The recent trends may be that people are using it more like podcasts or Vtubers.
I think it's probably the same method as using Voicemeeter.
Loopback Win output?I think the flow would be to send it to the FL, receive that In on the FL, and output it from another Out.

    Hello

I used the demo of Cerato once and was about to buy it, but before I knew it, the sale ended and I was stuck with it.
The idea of harmonizing with the same slice is interesting.
Slice x probably won't allow you to create multiple slices at the same location.
I'm waiting for a sale, but it never comes lol

You can decide the timing when slicing by hitting the pad.
This allows you to slice in the same way as MPC.
It certainly feels good to slice while pounding.

    It's a beta specification.
I immediately installed a version with a stem.
I tried using it and it feels good, doesn't it?
I'm looking forward to seeing all the crazy phrases.
Is FL cloud using loop cloud? It is a feeling.
    It's difficult to use.

Loopback Win output?I think the flow would be to send it to the FL, receive that In on the FL, and output it from another Out.
I understand this in theory, but this doesn't work.
I don't know much about mixers, so I have to learn more.

      Sorry for the late reply.

Slice x probably won't allow you to create multiple slices at the same location.
I'm waiting for a sale, but it never comes lol

With Slicex, you shouldn't be able to do it without copying it to another location and then changing the scale.
Since Serato Sample is based on the premise of creating music through sampling, it is very easy to use sample pitch changes and time stretching.
      I'm waiting for the sale.
They don't have sales very often, so I guess BF is next.

This allows you to slice in the same way as MPC.
It certainly feels good to slice while pounding.

I've never used MPC, but if you trace back the origins, MPC came first.

      It's a beta specification.
I immediately installed a version with a stem.
I tried using it and it feels good, doesn't it?
I'm looking forward to seeing all the crazy phrases.
Is FL cloud using loop cloud? It is a feeling.
      It's difficult to use.

      I tried using Stem.
It may be a CPU issue, but I get the impression that it takes quite a while.

The Serato Sample was created almost in real time, so it was a bit different.
(Serato Sample can be switched between On and Off)
However, FL separates the tracks, so I think you can use them depending on the purpose.

I think FL Cloud is enough if it's free.
If this was a paid service, I think it would be a little less appealing.
It's cheap if you buy it at the Loopcloud sale, and it has a lot of features, so it's hard to compare.

Loopback Win output?I think the flow would be to send it to the FL, receive that In on the FL, and output it from another Out.
I understand this in theory, but this doesn't work.
I don't know much about mixers, so I have to learn more.

      That's no good.
You said that Audacity worked well, so maybe it's the settings part of FL Studio?
