Voltage Modular Nucleus How to make a random sequence with sample and hold

This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.

I was writing a sample and hold article on VCV Rack and had an idea, so I tried it.

I don't think there is much demand, so I haven't given a detailed explanation.
(Add if there is demand)

Voltage Modular doesn't have a 16-step sequencer even in Core.
(It ’s stingy, is n’t it?)

I was wondering if I could make a random sequence, but I tried to go with sample and hold.

This time, we will generate a random sequence from sample and hold using two types, "Mini LFO" and "8-Step-Sequencer".

It's not fun to make it normally, so I put two "2-Step-Sequencer" with different speeds in the sample and hold to increase the random elements.

Create a random sequence with sample and hold using an LFO as a source

The first is a sample and hold using a simple LFO.

Use your DAW's MIDI notes as a GATE.

The modules used are as follows.

・ OSCILLATOR
・ FILTER
・ AMPLIFIER
・ SAMPLE AND HOLD
・ MINI LFO

You can get the effect like this.

It's a sound you've heard somewhere.

You can get this effect by changing the parameters that move a little.

There is a cycle of LFO and sample and hold rate around 39 seconds in the following video, and the LFO and pitch are linked.

And since the sample and hold out is also connected to 1V / OCT, the cutoff closes at low notes and the cutoff opens at high notes, so the cutoff and pitch are also beautifully linked.

When using LFO as the source, there is one problem and BPM synchronization does not occur.

It's good for making sound effects, but I don't think it's very useful when used in sync with a DAW.

Create a random sequence with sample and hold using a sequencer as a source 1

First, make it with one sequencer.

Use "8 Step Sequencer" and "SYNC DIVIDER" instead of "MINI LFO".

The advantage of using a sequencer is BPM synchronization.

Only the sequencer can synchronize BPM with Voltage Modular Nucleus.

Since it is easy, I will fold the detailed explanation.

Add one "8 Step Sequencer" and one "SYNC DIVIDER" to the previous configuration.

This is also easy, so I will fold the detailed explanation.

Connect the newly added "OUT" of the "8 Step Sequencer" to the "IN" of the "SAMPLE AND HOLD". A random sequence can be output by changing the speed of "SYNC DEVIDER".

This is a mechanism that raises the sound when the GATE OUTs of the two sequencers overlap.

Voltage Modular Nucleus How to make a random sequence with sample and hold Summary

It's a very simple principle, so if you remember it, you can use it in various ways.

It may be applicable even if it is not modular.

From the next time, I will write an article about the Core module again.
