How to use VCV Rack Create a sequence with sample & hold

This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.

When MASSIVE X is released and I'm playing around with it, time goes by.
There are a lot of bugs, so I think it wasn't in time for development.

Well, I will write an article about MASSIVE X, but I will continue to write about VCV Rack.

You can follow the VCV Rack article from the summary page below.

VCV Rack usage summary
This is a collection of articles about VCV Rack.It also explains each module and is increasing every day. As of July 2019, there are 7 articles.

VCV Rack has various sequencers, but considering that you can enjoy modularity for the enjoyment of old age, it is necessary to be able to do various things assuming that there is no sequencer.

It's courageous to have all of them all at once, so I think I'll buy them one by one.

If there was OSC, LFO, and no sequencer, it would be quite empty.
(See, the sequencer is expensive ...)

That's why I will explain sample & hold, which is a method of creating a sequence without using a sequencer.

I have referred to the following sites very much this time. (Thanks to our ancestors)

Creating a sequence with sample and hold
It's been a while since I last blogged.I would like to update a little more this year! This time, I will explain the demo video that I uploaded. The demo video is here "Creating Sequence with Sample and Hold", that is, "Sample and Hold ...

Creating a sequence with sample and hold

First, find a module that can sample and hold.

When I checked that it should have been a mutable-instruments module, Utilities (The Kinks) Seems to be usable.

Please refer to this article.

Looking now, I can't understand the sample & hold part at all.

How to use VCV Rack that can be used for free ⑭ Utilities
This is the XNUMXth article of VCV Rack. The previous article is here Continuing from the previous article, I will continue to introduce recommended modules. This time it's Audible Instruments based on Mutable Instruments.I will go smoothly. Utilities (...

Let's actually make a sequence.

Two inputs, a trigger and a signal

The purpose of this time is to make a sequence with sample & hold! So, the trigger is worn sideways and uses the BPM Clock.

As a mechanism, every time the gate is input, the signal value is taken and the same value is continuously output as shown below.

Since VCV Rack V1 is designed to make a startup sound, it will be used for anything other than OSC.
Other modules to use.

Module to use
  • Macro-oscillator2 (Plaits)
  • FLO-1
  • Utilities
  • BPM Clock
  • Mixer

The connections are as follows.

I made a very simple sequence.

Use Mixer to control the range of pitch

If you are using Mixer, you can control the voltage range and adjust the pitch width by using this.

If you do nothing, it will sound from a considerable bass to a treble, so it will be quite jarring.

So use Mixer to adjust the pitch range.

I have prepared a video so please take a look.

I switched Macro-oscillator2 (Plaits) appropriately and played it.

You can enjoy this alone.

bonus

Looking back at the article, I noticed that if you input a trigger with nothing connected to IN, a random signal will be generated.

Random signal output is output even without an LFO!

In this case, if there is something that makes the output of Utilities a VCA like Mixier, you can also adjust the pitch width.

Summary

It seems that various patterns can be created with just sample and hold.

It seems that you can create more complicated sequences by mixing multiple LFOs.

But Platits, Kinks and Shades are the modules you want to buy.

I will scrutinize it from now on.

Erica's Black Octa source seems to be usable as a modulation source.I think that the pitch width can be adjusted by directly touching the meter part without CV input to the simple VCA of VCV.

Certainly Erica's Black Octasource looks good as a modulation source!
(Personally, I really like Erica's products.)
Sorry for the confusing article if you read it again. (I'll fix it soon)
When I put the clock in Utilities, I was able to output a random signal without an LFO.
As you say, the pitch width can be adjusted with VCA.
