[Free] TR-808 upgraded?Developer releases RC-808
This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.
The VST2020 version of RC-8 was released on August 8, 808.
Please refer to the following article for the installation method.
RC-808 is software, not hardware, and is distributed free of charge.
Please refer to the article by DTM Station for the development process. It's pretty hot.
RC-808 How to download
You can download it from the official website.
It is currently not officially available for download.
You can download it from "Windows Version" at the bottom of the screen.
Currently there is no Mac version and it seems that it will be released soon.
Unfortunately, there is no manual yet and I don't know how to use it in detail.
For the time being, I will publish the information that I found by groping.
Easy to use RC-808
I will explain how to use it easily.
However, since there is no manual, we will update the information found by fumbling as needed.
How to start RC-808 and initial settings
Start RC-808
After downloading, unzipping it will have the following configuration.
RC-808.exe is the main file and can be started by double-clicking it.
When you execute the exe, the following screen will be displayed, but click "Execute". (I missed the capture, so the image is a reuse of VCV Rack)
The following screen will be displayed.
Initial setup
The initial setting is described in the click start with a figure.
Audio device selection
Click "Setting (S)"-> "Device" in the menu.
If it is an ASIO compatible driver, select "ASIO", otherwise select "DirectSound" or "Wsapi".
Select your audio device from Audio Output and click OK.
System settings
Click "Setting (S)"-> "System" in the menu.
Check "Enable Note Off" and "Wave Monitor" as shown below, and click "OK".
Installing a virtual MIDI port
If you want to send MIDI notes from your DAW and operate them, follow this procedure.
This procedure will allow you to send MIDI notes to the RC-808 using the virtual MIDI port.
However, since the sound goes directly from the RC-808 to the audio device, it is not possible to route the audio from a DAW or the like. (It's the same as using an external MIDI sound module)
Execute "setuploopbe1.exe" to install.
Reading tones
No tone is loaded at startup, so load the tone.
The extension of the kit is ".allprm" (set of tones).
Each tone is ".prm".
Click File-> Load Parameter (kit) from the menu.
There is a "DrumKit-Sequence" folder in the folder where you started RC-808, so move to this folder.
Here, let's open the file "1DeePAcstOpnCls.allprm" at the top of the top folder.
Path is the following location.
The sound is terrible.
Please try playing other tones.
It makes a pretty dangerous sound.
Tone editing
It's pretty deep from here.
Click the red frame to enter edit mode.
Since there is no manual at this time, I can guess, but I will explain it.
(1) Oscillator: You can use up to 8 OSCs in total. You can edit the OSC selected by "P" in (8).You can use sine wave, sawtooth wave, triangle wave, square wave, metallic, noise 1, and noise 2.
(2) Pitch Envelope: Click to launch the envelope editor as shown below.
(3) OSC Amp Envelope: Click to launch the following envelope editor.
(4) Note number: The frequency set by the note number sounds.
(5) Amp Envelope Depth: You can adjust the effectiveness of the amp envelope.
(6) FilterBank: You can select the order of two filters. It can also be bypassed by "THRU".1,2Click the button to display the Filter setting dialog.
"P1" on the far left is OSC, and you can select 1 to 8 OSCs from here.
(7) VCF: The filter can adjust the cutoff and resonance of the filter by the routing set in FilterBank. You can adjust how much the envelope is cut off with the envelope depth. I think THRU means through (bypass).
(8) VCA: Volume envelope.Click to display the following editor.
This editor is common to all envelopes and can be switched by radio buttons.
(9) Partial Level: It plays a role like a mixer. One "P #" is the role of one OSC.You can use up to 1 OSCs in total.
(10) Audition: You can listen to it. If you check "Repeat", the sound will be played repeatedly at the next "ms" interval. "Play (duration)" is pronounced only while it is pressed.
How to export the sound of RC-808
It's a little troublesome, but at present, there seems to be no other way but to output one by one.
First, click the pad you want to output.
Then click "Save Wave" from the menu and save it with a name of your choice.
I will add it as soon as I understand other methods.
Operate RC-808 from a MIDI controller
If you've used a hard MIDI sound module, you shouldn't have any resistance, but the standard is MIDI channel 10.
If you're operating from an external MIDI controller, you'll need to match one or the other.
In the case of Maschine, there is a Controll Editor, so it is easy to use "GM Drum (Channel 10)".
Since it's like a drum, MIDI notes that are fairly close to the original are assigned.
I think it's easier to match MIDI notes on the RC-808 side.
Click "Settings (S)"-> "Inst. # <-Note #" from the menu.
From here you can change the value of the MIDI note on each pad.
Control RC-808 from your DAW
I will show you how to use FL Studio.
For other DAWs, it's almost the same as using an external sound source.
RC-808 settings
Click "Settings (S)"-> "Device" from the menu.
Select "Loop Be Internal MIDI" for "MIDI IN". (Do not use MIDI OUT)
Then in FL Studio F10 Press. (This will display the Settings)
Select "Loop Be Internal MIDI" under "Output" and set the "Port" number to "1".
(This number can be any number if combined with the MIDI OUT number)
Close "Settings" and add "MIDI OUT".
This will add "MIDI OUT".
Set Channel to 10 and Port to 1.
Now that you are ready, let's click 35 (B2) etc. from the piano roll of "MIDI OUT".You should hear a sound.
[Free] TR-808 upgraded?Developer releases RC-808
The sound is really great, but the usability is honestly terrible.
I also felt that I didn't need a sequencer.
If only the sound source part is VST and the operability is good and the price is around $ 100, I think that quite a lot of users purchased it.
Rather, I would like the free version to remain as it is and be released as a paid version with improved operability and VST support.
