[Free] Introducing Pedalboard 2, a VST plug-in host that can be used live, etc.

This is the introduction of Pedalboard 2 published by Niall Moody because it looks interesting.

One thing I want to write an article in the future is a hint, but it is unknown except for its function.

I will write it in several parts, but I will write the article while learning, so I would appreciate it if you could watch over with warm eyes.

The point to note is that development has stopped at present, so it seems better not to expect much future development.

Overview of Pedalboard 2

A VST (also AudioUnit on OSX) plug-in host designed for live performances. Based on JUCE's "Audio Plugin Host" code, it has been significantly modified to suit my purpose.

Major features:

  • Modular patching.
  • All plug-in parameters can be manipulated in real time via MIDI CC or Open Sound Control messages.
  • You can queue any number of patches and switch quickly.

Pedalboard 2 is open source (GPL v3) and the source code is included in both downloads.

Note: Development of Pedalboard 2 is currently suspended indefinitely.

How to download Pedalboard 2

Transition from the above link and click the link of the corresponding OS to download.

Starting Pedalboard 2 and initial settings

You don't need an installer, so move it to a suitable location after unzipping it.

When you open the folder, it has the following structure.

I think most users are 64bitOS, so execute the exe in the red frame in the figure below.

When you start it, the following screen will be displayed.

Audio settings

Click Audio Settings under Options.

Select the "Input" and "Output" that suits your environment.

After making your selection, click "Test" to see if it makes a sound.

VST plug-in settings

As a feature of Pedalboard 2, VST plug-ins can be loaded.

You can either specify the folder used in your DAW, or prepare a separate folder and copy it a little. (It is difficult to use even if it is displayed in large quantities, and it takes time to scan)

Click "Plugin List" from "Options" in the menu.

The plug-ins registered at the beginning are displayed.

Click Option, then click Scan for new or updated VST plug-ins.

Add the VST folder you always use here, or add a newly prepared folder.

Most VST plugins can be used even if you move the location by copying the DLL.
(Some plugins with strong protection may cause an error)

This completes the initial settings.

It's a pretty good software, so I'd be happy if you could continue developing it.

That's why I'm thinking of exploring how to use it and spreading it.

From the next time, I will do a place to make a little sound.

    Thank you for updating.

It was software I didn't know at all, but when I looked it up, it was a VST host that was featured in LANDR's article The 8 Best VST Hosts for Live Performance.
It's not a plug-in, it's standalone, so I can't predict how to use it, but I'm looking forward to it because it seems to be functionally useful!

I didn't know it either, but when I was wandering around, I found it and it looked good, so I decided to write an introductory article.
