How to make a realistic radio sound [with sound source]

I'm yosi, the maintainer of Chillout with Beats.

I wrote how to use radio voice using IR before, but since there seems to be demand, this time I will introduce how to make radio sound.

Last time, it was a method to resemble the texture using IR.

This time I will introduce two types.

XNUMX. Add plug-ins and actual noise to create a radio feel
XNUMX. Use radio noise and side chains to create a radio atmosphere (using FL Studio)

XNUMX. Add plug-ins and actual noise to create a radio feel

First of all, it's done.

Plugin settings

Plug-ins are standard in Lo-Fi seriesizotope VinylIs used.

exactlyizotope VinylIf you look at the page of "Using vinyl for an old radio soundThere was something called.

However, personally, the noise is still like a record, so I will change this part.

The settings are as follows

・ MECHANICAL NOISE: -16dB
・ Wear: 23%
・ DUST: -Inf dB (AMOUT is also 0%)
・ SCRATCH: -Inf dB (AMOUT is also 0%)
・ WARP DEPTH: 4%
・ YEAR: 1930
・ RPM: 78

It looks like this on the GUI.

Look for radio noise

Look for free radio noise.

It will come out quite a bit, so please look for it.

I used this.

You can download it in MP3.

Please choose the one that has the description about the license properly.

Use only the radio noise part

As you can see, the zapping sound is loud in the first half.

This works fine with this, but since I want normal radio noise now, I'll only use the second half.

After that, the sound source made into radio sound and radio noiseizotope VinylIt is completed if you pass it through.

It's easy, but isn't it reasonable?

XNUMX. Use radio noise and side chains to create a radio atmosphere (FL Studio only)

We will further modify the method created in "1.".

This method uses a sidechain against plug-ins and radio noise to recreate the turbulent feel of the radio.

I use some plug-ins dedicated to FL Studio, but I think that it can be done in the same way with other DAWs.

The finished product looks like this.

I use three mixers.

Mixer XNUMXvinylProceed on the assumption that is loaded.

Mixer XNUMX settings

Load "Fruity peak controller".

I like the settings, but I think this is a good choice.

Next, the mixer XNUMX is the mixer XNUMXvinylCopy.

It's easy to do as follows.

Mixer XNUMX settings

Assign the noise sound mixer to 3.

And this time, rather than radio noise, I will use the first half that I avoided earlier.

Route from mixer XNUMX to mixer XNUMX as a sidechain.

Route from mixer XNUMX to mixer XNUMX and remove the routing to the master.

I took a video here.

Mixer XNUMX settings

"Fruity Limiter"vinylRead after. (Comps that support other side chains are also OK)

Please refer to the following and change the settings according to your taste.

Control parameters with "Fruity peak controller"

Use the "Fruity peak controller" to control the "THRES" parameter of the "Limiter".

Right-click on "THRES" and click "Link to controller".

Click Internal controller, click Peal ctrl – Peak, and then click Accept.

When playing with this, you can change the degree of side chain engagement by "Fruity peak controller".

I think it would be better to automate "THRES" if you are aiming for it instead of randomness.

How to make a realistic radio sound [with sound source] Summary

Plugins are easier if it's a quick method.

It makes a difference just by adding noise with a little effort.

After that, it was a new discovery to be able to reproduce the feeling that the sound is interrupted by using the side chain.

Everyone feels the same with just plug-ins, so I think that originality will be born there by devising something.
