The story that the side chain (ducking) of SerumFX is super excellent XNUMX

In the case of Serum, since it is a MIDI trigger, it is not strictly a side chain, but it is easy to understand, so it is a side chain for convenience.

If you really have Serum, I want you to try it.

It needs to be triggered by MIDI, but since it is applied to Filter and other effects in addition to Gain, you can easily obtain effects that cannot be obtained with ducking plug-ins.

I prepared a video.

The main riff is SIGNAL and I use Serum FX in the side chain.

The code is Sylenth 1 and the Filter is modulated by the SerumFX LFO pattern.

I've run out of time for a while, so I'll divide it into two parts.

I will summarize it in one article at a later date.

・ Advantages and disadvantages of obtaining side chains (ducking) with SerumFX

・ How to sidechain (ducking) with SerumFX (next time)

Advantages and disadvantages of obtaining side chains (ducking) with SerumFX

Since SerumFX is not a dedicated effect for obtaining side chains, it is installed in Duck etc., but of course there are functions that SerumFX does not have. However, on the contrary, there are some functions that are not installed in Duck etc.

・ In addition to Gain, you can get side chains with Filter and Effects.
・ Envelope, LFO editor-Easy to use and easy to create patterns
・ LFO patterns can be saved
In addition to Gain, you can get side chains with Filter and Effects.

Normally, the sidechain is for Gain, but you can sidechain any effects that are installed in Filter, Reverb, and Serum.

I made a video of the difference between when the filter is applied and when the side chain is applied to Gain (EQ is used here).

The first half is Filter and the second half is EQ.

Envelope, LFO editor-easy to use and easy to create patterns

Serum is pretty good at editing envelopes and LFOs.

Since I wrote an article before, please refer to the following article for how to use it.

Also, there are some preset LFOs that can be used for side chains.

It's easy with this.

LFO patterns can be saved

Serum can save and load LFO patterns.

I will explain briefly, but please refer to this article for details.

You can save it by clicking the LFO folder icon and clicking "Save Shape".

The saved "Shape" is stored in the "User" folder by default.

I also prepared a video.

Demerit

・ Need to be triggered by MIDI
・ You can't use it unless you buy Serum

There are no major disadvantages.

To be clear, if you have Serum and make EDM etc., it is good enough to say that it is a loss if you do not use it.

Need to be triggered by MIDI

I think this is a unavoidable part, but since Serum does not have a sidechain input, audio sidechaining is not possible.

Since it is triggered by MIDI, you also need to type in MIDI notes.

However, if you just want to trigger Kick, you can use Slicex to extract only the MIDI notes of the Kick part.

You can't use it without buying Serum

It's not cheap at all, and SerumFX is not sold separately.

Just with Serum and Serum FX setAbout XNUMXSo, I think it's better to buy Serum if you want to buy bad plug-ins in detail.

It has been updated considerably with "Life Time Update".

Of course, I didn't get the update fee. (And never in the future)

Summary of the story that the side chain (ducking) of SerumFX is super excellent

SerumFX is good.

It's so good that I wonder why I haven't used it until now.

Ah, I completely forgot that I could adjust the gain at the final stage of the effect.
In the previous article, I thought that the volume was adjusted by the gain of the noise oscillator, so I thought that another plug-in would be fine, but if you adjust the gain at the final stage of the effect, you can adjust the gain with abundant effect presets and flexibility. It seems that there are many things that can only be done with Serum with such LFO control.
The more you know SerumFX, the more you are a monster. It would have been even more perfect if multi-band ducking was possible. It seems that you can get close to the high-pass filter with an LFO.

You can't adjust the gain at the final stage of the effect.
I'm forced to do it with EQ.
If you do it well, I think you should use Noise's AudioIn and adjust the level of the noise oscillator.
If you don't want to hear the bass, I think EQ is fine.

It's terrible to want a synth to have multi-band ducking.
There will be Melda, but ...
