How to use VCV Rack How to make 808Kick using modular
This is yosi from Chillout with Beats.
I made an 808 snare, so this time I'll make an 808 kick.
Just as Reverb.com distributed 808 kicks for free, I will try to make it closer to that.
Aim for the following sounds.
Here is the finished sound.
Well, it was a kick, but the impression is that it is far from the real sound.
(Since it is said that it is direct from VCV, I wrote it to FL Studio once and only normalized it.)
How to make a modular 808 Kick
Advance preparation
First, check the frequency of the original sample.
The peak is about 52.8Hz.
Preparing the sine wave
Addition of VCO-1
Start VCV Rack, make it clean, right-click and enter "vco" in the search window and add "VCO-1".
Move the cursor over "VCO-1" andCtrl + D Press.
It will be duplicated.
FREQ setting
Right-click on the "FREQ" knob of one of the "VCO-1", enter "52.8" and press enter.
Right-click on the "FREQ" knob of the other "VCO-1", enter "180" and press enter. (The second is prepared to emphasize the attack)
Addition of ADSR and VCA
Right-click and enter "adsr" in the search window to add "ADSR".
The ADSR module is added.
Prepare the kick body and two ADSRs for the attack part.
Right-click and enter "vca" in the search window to add "VCA-1".
The "VCA-1" module is added.
Move the cursor over "ADSR" andCtrl + D Press to duplicate.
Now you have two ADSRs and two VCAs.
Add Clock and SEQ
Right-click and enter "bmp" in the search window and add "BMP Clock".
Then right-click and enter "SEQ16" in the search window and add "SEQ-16".
The following two have been added.
Wiring for each module
Connect as shown above.
After that, you can change the tone by adjusting each volume with ADSR or Mixer.
But is VCV Rack pretty good? There will be variations in the sound.
The figure below shows the sound recorded with FL Studio after bridging, but you can see that the attack part is considerably off.
How to use VCV Rack How to make 808Kick using modular Summary
To a certain extent, it may be good to make sounds with Comp or EQ.
Although it is said to be 808, it is not so close, so I will investigate a little.
But it's interesting to make your own kicks and snares.
Next time, I will try hi-hats and cowbells.
