vintage tape echo

Outer Space is a plug-in that faithfully emulates the famous vintage tape echoes made in the early 70's.Like the original, Outer Space features an echo section with three playheads and a spring reverb tank. It models the frequency response and saturation of three different tapes, as well as the analog imperfections of tape recording/playback.It also models the delay-rate (repeat-rate) ballistic response that can create eerie pitch shifts (due to the Doppler effect), one of the classic sound effects of tape echo systems.

tape modeling

We modeled three types of tape.The original RT-3L, a more modern replacement, and an old worn tape.Each tape affects the sound in slightly different ways, especially at higher Feedback (Intensity) settings.

WOW/Flutter also changes depending on the tape selected, creating different amounts of pitch and volume non-linearity.

Changing the Repeat Rate also affects the frequency response of the tape.

As with the original machine, the mode selector allows you to select from 12 combinations of echo playback head and reverb (4 for Echo, 7 for Echo+Reverb, and 1 for Reverb).
