Spacer overview

Spacer is a modular creative effects station that combines time and space. Spacer features five effects modules that can be linked in any order to create infinite FX combinations, but each is also designed to operate as an independent processing station. Use algorithmic reverb, convolution reverb, granular reverb, simple delay, and granular delay to orbit your signal and create dreamy harmonics, shifting soundscapes, and contemporary ambience.

Overview of OCS-45

OCS-45 Cassette Simulation brings the lo-fi, vintage feel of cassette tapes to your sound. Get an instant retro vibe by choosing from four authentic cassette tapes, each with a different personality, and a combination of pitch modulation, background noise, and dropouts to enhance your tape's taste. It can add attractive imperfections.

The OCS-45 is both a cassette simulation plug-in and a rich distortion processing unit with five precisely programmed distortion types. Additionally, dry/wet and bypass controls on each effects module give you complete control, whether you want nostalgic cassette emulations or more creative effects combinations.

wow/flutter
Tape recordings often produce inconsistent sound due to imperfect equipment mechanics. These irregularities cause tape speed fluctuations, leading to pitch variations and tonal deterioration.

The OSC-45's Wah/Flutter module lets you add this detuned, wobbly, worn-out effect to your sound at a speed and depth that suits you. The clean, vibrant GUI is a single, flowing line representing the modulated audio signal, making it easy to see the changes you're making to the sound.

Drop out
Physical cassette tapes have a tendency to have periodic short, irregular drops due to damage or deterioration of the tape or playback head. This is a characteristic quirk of the recording medium, and now part of its appeal.

The OCS-45's Dropouts module applies this effect to the left and right channels independently, working independently on both the input signal and the noise generation module. Setting the Amount dial lower will give you a more subtle feel, while setting it higher will add more frequent and easily audible volume breaks.

One of the most well-known characteristics of low-fidelity cassette tapes is the background hiss caused by electronic circuits and mechanical magnetic elements. The OSC-1's Noise module allows you to blend this warm noise into your sound, adding a layer of static texture.

The noise generator has an envelope follower that works in parallel with the audio and stops when the sound stops playing. You can also apply periodic dropout to the noise signal by turning on the D/O switch.

distortion
The OCS-45 has five types of distortion that can be added to your signal in combination with the plug-in's other effect modules or on their own:

Tube – Semi-aggressive distortion that simulates a tube amp.

Diode – A specific clipping method that creates an aggressive distortion sound.

Soft Clip – Rounds off the ends of waveforms that exceed 0dB, creating a pleasantly warm sound.

Saturation – Subtle distortion that adds pleasing overtones.

Downsample – Reduces the sample rate of the signal, creating a bright ringing tone.

Set the amount of distortion with the Drive control, and adjust the frequency of the effect with the Tone knob.

cassette type
The OCS-45 is a four-mode cassette VST modeled after the primary tape type of the golden age of compact cassettes as classified by the IEC in 1979. Each type of magnetic tape was made with different chemicals, resulting in a unique performance and sound.

The first type of cassette tape was Ferrick Type I tape, also known as "normal" tape. This type is excellent for music with a lot of bass, but loses fidelity in the high frequencies, especially compared to later chrome and metal cassette tape types.

Type II cassettes, also known as "high-bias" or "chrome" tapes, were developed to remedy the lack of treble headroom of Type I. However, the treble improvements from Type I cassettes were tempered by a reputation for being "bass shy."

Type III Ferrichrome (or Ferrochrome), which was released for a short period from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, was an attempt to combine the improved high-frequency clarity of Type II with the rich low-frequency range of Type I cassettes. there were.

Type IV cassettes were more expensive and, as a result, were less popular in the consumer market. Metal particle cassettes ("Metal") were first released in 1979, and high-end "Super Metal" were released in the early 90's. Type IV cassettes have the widest dynamic range and least distortion of the four types. Metal cassettes have less hiss than Type I, have a solid low end, and have the best treble response of the four types.
