Free distribution information
CherryAudio has released the OBERHEIM SEM emulator Synthesizer Expander Module ($29).
And it's free for a limited time.
The only drawback is that it's a monosynth.
Since it can only produce single notes, it is mainly used for lead or bass.
Sound demo
I tried playing the preset.
I like the thick sound.
It's also nice to be able to change presets using Ctrl+left and right arrow keys.
Overview
The Synthesizer Expander module is Cherry Audio's free emulation of the classic Oberheim® self-contained synthesizer module of the same name. The Synthesizer Expander module is a simple and rustic monosynth, but it has a unique tone thanks to its 12 dB/octave state-variable filter. This flexible filter, with lowpass, bandpass, highpass, and notch modes, was the star of the show.We recreated this filter precisely with a filter section and Phasor effect programmed by award-winning synth designer Mark Burton (MRB).
And best of all, it's completely free! The synthesizer expander module joins Cherry Audio's other free virtual instruments, including the popular surrealistic MG-1 Plus and the acclaimed Voltage Modular Nucleus virtual modular platform.Celebrating five years in desktop music production, Cherry Audio caps off an incredibly successful year with this holiday gift to all musicians.
Despite being a free plugin, the Synthesizer Expander Module is fully featured.Vintage synth fans and today's music producers alike will appreciate it. The features of the Synthesizer Expander Module are as follows:
Ultra precision dual oscillator
Multimode filter emulation by award-winning synth designer Mark Barton (MRB)
Massive Unison Mode
100 presets for bass, lead and percussion
Unique “Phasor” effect section emulating vintage Oberheim stompbox by Mark Barton
Studio quality echo effect with tempo sync
Full MIDI control and DAW automation of all controls with easy-to-use MIDI learning and mapping (presets and globals)
Focus/zoom-in functionality, standard UI zoom, drag resizing
Complete documentation available online directly from the instrument or in downloadable PDF format
Highly optimized DSP for optimal performance
User adjustable oversampling control
Completely free
