Introducing Cardinal, a plug-in that allows you to use VCV Rack modules

Today I would like to introduce Cardinal, which can use VCV Rack modules.

VCV Rack is virtual modular and works standalone and as a plugin.

But to make it work as a pluginPurchase Pro version ($149) is required.

Cardinal allows you to use some modules of VCV Rack 2 as plug-ins.

I also wrote an article on how to use VCV Rack, so please check it out.

Although it is partly, as of 8/2, 925 modules can be used, so I think it is enough.
(VCV Rack has 2,484 modules)

The comparison between VCV Rack 2 PRO and Cardinal is belowplease use this form.

I think Cardinal has written how to use it.

I tried playing the preset.

Overview

Cardinal is a free and open source virtual modular synthesizer plugin available for FreeBSD, Linux, macOS and Windows as JACK standalone and AU, LV2, VST2 and VST3 audio plugins.
It is based on the popular VCV Rack, but focuses on being a fully self-contained plug-in version.

Specifically, it's a DPF-based plugin wrapper for VCV Rack that uses that code directly instead of forking the project and provides a proper, self-contained, completely free and open source plugin version of Rack. Aim to have.
See the Why section below for why Cardinal exists.

Cardinal packs Rack, some third-party modules, and some internal utilities into a single binary.
All of Rack's "core" modules have been replaced with their Cardinal counterparts and simplified to work better as audio plugins.

Cardinal does not load any external modules nor does it connect to the official Rack library/store.
All VCV branding has been removed (as far as we know) to avoid trademark issues.

A VST3 version is in progress and is already part of the build, but is still experimental.
We recommend using other formats if possible.

Download

You can download it without registration.

Go to the link above and download the file that matches your OS.

If you are a Win user, "Cardinal-win64-##.##-installer.exe" is the installer, so I think this is good. (## is the version number)

Installation

If you download "Cardinal-win64-##.##-installer.exe", you can use it in the default installation. (VST3 is included)

Load preset

If you don't know what modular is, just load a preset and play around with it.

Presets can be opened from "Open Demo/Example project" in "File".

Summary

No, it's a great plugin.

Audible InstrumentsIt is a considerable advantage to be able to use the series.

I'm going to write a little about how to make sounds and how to use them.
