Introducing Xenos, a synth sound source that implements Raphaelradna's DSS algorithm

Today I would like to introduce Xenos, a slightly different synth sound source.

The DSS algorithm is described in the attached manual, so please read it if you are interested.

It's an important sound, but I don't think it's suitable for general usage.

Synth Just by changing the parameters, you can get a strange sound that is different from other synths.

I think it would be good to use it for noise generation in a genre like IDM.

Sound demo

Sound without any effects.

We will change the parameters along the way.

ShaperBox 3I tried to multiply.

It's no longer the kind of sound you can make just by thinking about it.

Overview

Xenos is a virtual instrument plugin that implements and extends the Dynamic Stochastic Synthesis (DSS) algorithm invented by Iannis Xenakis. Programmed in C++ using the JUCE framework, Xenos is open source, cross-platform, and can be built in many plugin formats.

The main features are as follows.

  • Full-fledged DSS engine
  • Xenharmonic Pitch Quantizer
  • Custom scale import in Scala format
  • 2 probability distributions with up to 10 parameters each
  • 1st and 2nd order random walks
  • Variable number of segments per wave period
  • Variable amplitude envelope
  • Polyphonic (64 voices by default)
  • MIDI implementation (notes, sustain, pitch bend)
  • Assigning an external MIDI controller
  • Parameter automation
  • simple and streamlined interface
  • free and open source
  • Xenos was first presented at the Meta-Xenakis Global Symposium and is a master's degree work from the University of California, Santa Barbara's Media Arts and Technology (MAT) program.

Download

You can download it without registration.

Go to the above link and click the corresponding OS link from "Assets" to start the download.

Installation

For Win, unzip the downloaded file and put "Xenos.vst3" in the following Path to complete the installation.

C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ VST3

Summary

There was some Lo-Fi-like sound coming out, but I thought it would be better to use another sound source if I was going to use this.

I think it's good for generating noise for music like IDM.
