I'm investigating how to use it for a while, but there is not much information.
That's why I'm trying various things with trial and error, but for the time being I found out how to use it as VST, so I will write it as an article.
This time, we will send you the following contents.
How to use Carla as a VST plugin
First of all, it's quite unstable, so honestly, excessive expectations are prohibited.
(Sometimes the sound was cut off or the DAW was dropped.)
I think it's for those who like experiments.
However, if you want to understand Carla, it is better to send MIDI data etc. from your DAW to understand the mechanism.
It's easy to do, put the entire Carla folder into the VST plugins folder.
It works as a Wrapper in the same way as VCV Rack, so even if you put only a DLL such as "CarlaVstFxShell.dll" in the VST folder, Path will not pass and it will not work.
All you have to do is scan from your DAW.
If you scan it, it will be recognized as 10 types of plug-ins as shown below.
Start Carla
To start "Carla", load "carla patchbay" into the mixer.
Wrapper will be displayed, so click it.
This will display "Carla".
I also prepared a video.
For FL Studio
Let's turn on "Use Fixed Buffers".
Otherwise, noise will occur and the CPU load will increase.
Role of each VST
I checked it briefly, so I will write down the differences between them.
carlapatchbay, carlapatchbayFX
"Carla patch bay" is the same as standalone startup.
There are two In and Out.
There was no difference between "carla patchbay" and "carla patchbay FX".
Probably, I think that "carla patch bay" was originally prepared to operate as "Instruments". (Currently, all are recognized as FX in FL Studio and cannot be changed)
carlapatchbay16, carlapatchbay16FX
"Carla patchbay 16" and "carla patchbay 16FX" simply have 16 In and Out.
FL Studio has a "Patcher" so there is no benefit, but for other DAWs it's a nice feature.
carlapatchbay32, carlapatchbay32FX, carlapatchbay64, carlapatchbay64FX
I don't think it's necessary to explain anymore, but it is the 16 port and 32 port version of "carla patch bay 64".
There seems to be no difference other than the number of In and Out.
carlarack, carlarackFX
I think carlarack is for saving effect chains and so on.
You can change the order by right-clicking, but there seems to be no other degree of freedom.
It's easy to say that it's easy because it's lined up in series without wiring.
