Introducing ConsoleLA, which reproduces Airwindows' 70s console sound

Since it's Airwindows, there's no GUI, but the sound is great.

It's not explicitly stated because there are various reasons, but it's SSL.

It was Quad Eight.

Sound demo

ConsoleLA consists of two plugins.

Insert "ConsoleLAChannel" into each mixer and "ConsoleLABuss" into the master.

I inserted "ConsoleLAChannel" into each of the drums, synth, and bass, and inserted "ConsoleLABuss" into the master, added a gain match to each, and automated it so that it could be turned on and off at the same time.

There are no effects except ConsoleLA.

I put it on strong so it's easy to understand.

It is first turned on and then turned off.

Overview

API, Neves, MCI...yes, ConsoleLA emulates the most incredible console you've never heard of. This was the sound of LA in the '70s. You can find it on the back cover of a Steely Dan record, in Tom Scholz's basement, or hear it on classic records from LA, Hollywood, and San Francisco in the '70s. This company seems to still be around, and you can still get your hands on it...but there's no mention of the price or how to get it, so I don't know where, how much, or how to get it. It's not on Reverb, it's not on Vintage King, and it's hard to even find the channel strip.

Introducing Quad Eight.

This sound resonated in the 70s. Steely Dan, Zappa, the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell... this console is said to have mixed ``The Wall,'' and you heard this sound on Yes' album ``Relayer.'' , and the wilder sightings are countless. This console was a big production console before Neve, APIs, and SSL. Quad Eight was the first manufacturer to get into production and create recording consoles that you could just buy and set up. Before that, you had to make it yourself.

Quad Eight supplies the film industry (its website says it still makes products), and it shows. This desk is amazingly good at making movies for your ears. (Zappa's phrase was played on this desk on his album Hot Rats).

Quad Eight supplied products to the film industry (and its website says it still manufactures products). These desks are amazingly good at making movies for your ears. (To paraphrase Zappa, the album ``Hot Rats'' was made at Whitney Studios in Glendale the year before he acquired the Neve, and was probably on a Quad Eight or similar West Coast console.) Masu.)

ConsoleLA, like ConsoleMC before it, is a slightly different approach to emulating these great old dinosaurs. This is the closest thing to custom point-to-point wiring for discrete transistors. What's more, Quad Eight operated at a higher supply voltage than anyone else. It ran from -28 volts to plus 28 volts, providing enormous amounts of energy and headroom. The way to get this kind of sound is not through layers of "digital emulation" but through a minimal amount of atypical algorithms to get things right. Only then can you get the real Quad Eight energy and sonority.

Filtering is completely different from MCI. There are no mid-peaks. The slope is more gradual, but you can cut the midrange as hard as you want, and the deeper the 70s, the deeper the midrange cut. What I've done with ConsoleLA is the simplest and most approachable Console that allows you to get the wide range of sounds heard on these records, and which rewards you when you pursue music recording in an old-fashioned, human way. I was trying to create a system.

It definitely won't be my last, but it might end up being my favorite. I hope you like ConsoleLA. )
