Introducing the Airwindows clear clipper plugin ADClip8

Today I would like to introduce Airwindows' clipper plug-in ADClip8.

As usual, there is no GUI, and the design is simple.

However, since it is a proprietary algorithm, it may even be of higher quality than poor paid plugins.

If you have a paid clipper, please give it a try.

About each mode

Designed to meet the needs of the industry. The features and differences of each mode are explained below.

1. Normal mode (Normal): This mode provides basic clipping processing for ADClip8. You can increase the volume while suppressing volume peaks and maintaining sound quality transparency. Suitable when users want the most natural-sounding clipping effect.

2. Clips Only mode (Clips Only): In this mode, you only hear the part where the clipping actually occurs. This is a mode to more clearly analyze and adjust the effects of clipping. You can control specific peaks and see exactly how clipping is working.

3. After Burner mode: Utilizing multiple clipping stages allows for even more powerful volume and sound enhancement. This mode aims to more aggressively increase volume and expand dynamic range. It provides enhanced sound effects that go a step further than standard clipping.

4. Apocalypse mode (Apocalypse): A mode that aims for extreme volume amplification, resulting in extremely powerful bass and overall sound enhancement. This mode is suitable for certain music genres and effects that require very high volume and deep bass.

5. Apotheosis mode (Apotheosis): This mode is a further evolution of Apocalypse mode, which generates rich and powerful sound while increasing the volume to the maximum. This mode is used when you want extreme volume amplification, or when you want extremely deep bass and intense sound effects.

These modes allow you to use ADClip8 to achieve a variety of sound effects and meet the diverse needs of the music production process. Each mode helps you adjust the clipping effect and choose the best sound for your specific musical purpose or creative vision.

Since the differences are quite small, I played only the differences and compared them with Leikkaus.

I added 17dB in advance and put it into ADClip8.

Overview

The last time I saw the Airwindows ADClip, not in its neat stripped-down version, but in its full version, was on October 2017, 10. With ClipOnly followed by ClipOnly8, this is the first time in over six years that the Loudinator king has seen an update. ClipOnly2 is still the cleanest and purest way to add small amounts of peak clipping to your signal.

However, as we worked on a new version (also coming soon) tailored to the needs of Final Cut Pro, something new happened.

What if we adapted the FCP version, which has a built-in through clip and heavily uses golden ratios to achieve its results, to the new ADClip? What if you stacked the entire array of FinalClips in series, scaled to normal clipping levels, given a ceiling control to dial down the maximum to your liking, and like other Airwindows plugins like to do? ClipOnly2 can no longer be used. Just like the original ADClip7, we've added extra things to run more complex algorithms. However, the special features of ADClip7 still remain, such as gain match mode and Clips Only setting.

Introducing ADClip8. There are more settings. Normal, Gain Matched, Clip Only, then Afterburner, Explode, Nuke, Apocalypse and finally Apotheosis. No, really! This is the new setting.

These represent that stages have been added.

Normal is 1 level (Gain Matched is also the same), Clip Only indicates the start position of the clip, and new modes are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 special through clips that are aware of the ClipOnly2 style sample rate. It is named after the sound it produces when clipping. In fact, think "bigger, bassier, fatter" while adding stages. You don't always want to use all 6 stages.

What is interesting is how this affects sample-to-sample peaking. This process results in through-clipping, and as the ClipOnly2 algorithm is used repeatedly, it resists harsh entry and exit into clipped states, producing an intensely saturated sound as you dial up the ADClip8 and increase the gain. It literally puts in transition samples and resists peaks between samples from exceeding normal clipping. The more stages there are, the more thoroughly the "true peak" will be resisted.

I'd like to tell you not to use this for evil purposes, but I'm not kidding. If you beat everyone with "competitive loudness" this way, don't ever think I'll listen to what you did. )

FYI, 'Apotheosis' mode should also be a very nice way to do very moderate transparent clipping of difficult materials: ClipOnly2 is still very transparent, but sounds like ADClip8's Normal mode with a bit more brightness. It just has to happen. Apotheosis mode simply allows you to do more, so I don't blame people who prefer it. I would be happy if you liked ADClip8!

ADClip8 has several modes that allow users to fine-tune the sound quality and clipping effects. Each mode has a specific musical style.
