Introducing BPB Dirty VHS, which reproduces the Lo-Fi feel of video tapes

BPB has released a new plug-in.

As expected from BPB, if you like Lo-Fi, please check it out.

Sound demo

I tried playing the preset on a drum.

I tried playing it with a bell-like tone.

Precautions when using with FL Studio

Setting Use fixed size buffers is required.

The difference in sound between On and Off is as follows.

The setting is enabled by clicking "Use fixed size buffers" in "Troubleshooting" from the gear icon of the plugin.

Overview

VHS plug-in
BPB Dirty VHS simulates the sonic flaws of old video cassette recorders and VHS tapes. This plugin was born out of a love of resampling VHS audio and the need to streamline that process and make it more instantaneous.

We have deeply analyzed multiple VTR models, ranging from those in perfect working condition to those in desperate need of repair. We also tested multiple VHS tapes, including new and completely destroyed cassettes.

Our analysis focused on extracting pitch variation, circuit noise, transport noise, dynamics, and frequency response information for each unit analyzed. We then used all this information to develop various models that reproduced the sound and atmosphere of each unit we analyzed.

Built-in tape emulation algorithms finely slice incoming audio and apply tiny crossfades to each slice, preserving the musical timing of your input material even when extreme pitch changes occur. .

BPB Dirty VHS has 8 processing modes. Each mode simulates a different combination of VHS and VCR units with unique pitch mismatch and tonal characteristics:

Golden - Modeled after a 90's VHS player and in very good condition.
Old – Modeled after an old VHS player with a dirty head in poor condition.
80s – Modeled after a 1980s VHS player that used old, worn-out VHS cassettes.
Generation – Emulates the effect of repeatedly recording the same signal using the same tape until there is significant “generational loss” in signal quality.
Broken – Model a broken VHS player that needs repair!
Long-play – Emulates what would happen if you accidentally put your VHS recorder into 'Long Play' mode.
Circuit-bent - Models a VHS player with a "bent circuit" and intentionally modifies unusual effects, such as wiring the player's audio output to a servo mechanism that adjusts tape speed.
Console – Modeled after vintage game console sounds recorded on VHS tapes.
Also, Dirty VHS has three modes of operation:

Grainy – The most accurate processing mode, but the most CPU intensive.Use when the signal can be bounced.
Smooth – Less accurate, but less demanding mode. Transients can be maintained better than Grainy mode.
Whammy – Turn your BPB Dirty VHS into a pitch shifter. Can be used for extreme pitching effects.
Includes 20 factory presets to help you get started with the plugin.Edit and save your own presets using the built-in patch manager.

tape chorus
We've also implemented a tape chorus effect that simulates the chorus when recording signals on multiple VHS tapes.A surprisingly warm chorus that perfectly matches virtual analog synths.

This chorus also has a stereo spread feature that makes the effect wider.

By increasing the value of the Pitch knob, you can make the chorus sound more lo-fi.This creates more pitch disturbances and volume drops, leading to crazy chorus effects.

Distortion & pitch shifter
It wouldn't be a BPB plugin without the Dirt algorithm. BPB Dirty VHS allows you to distort your signal with tape-style distortion.Combine with the pitch module and tone coloration module to create complex lo-fi effects.

But the Dirt knob isn't the only way to distort the signal in BPB Dirty VHS. Try out unique pitch modulation, pitch shifting, and crash effects in Circuit-bent, Console, and Whammy modes.

That's BPB Dirty VHS!
Inspired by the success of the BPB Dirty Filter, BPB Dirty LA, and BPB Saturator plug-ins, we wanted to create a plug-in that faithfully emulates the sound of VHS tapes.

For this project, BPB teamed up with Thump One developer Toybox Audio. Toybox Audio liked our idea for a VHS plug-in and helped us turn it into a fully functional plug-in.

In addition to the above features, BPB Dirty VHS features a freely resizable GUI, a randomization button, and an undo/redo function to restore previous settings.

Please note that BPB Dirty VHS is very CPU intensive. This is due to internal processing required to simulate the complex nonlinearities of VHS tapes.

Installation

I feel like there is some kind of mistake, but the downloaded file name is "Windows (VST3) v1.017.vst3".

When I scan it, it is recognized as "BPB Dirty VHS", but the VST3 file is "Windows (VST3) v1.017.vst3", so I can't tell at a glance what kind of plug-in it is.

I feel like it would be better to change to "BPB Dirty VHS"...

I think it will probably be updated, so I should wait for it, or change the file name myself.
