Introducing Akaizer, which reproduces the time stretch of Akai's S950 etc.

Introducing PitchNasty the other dayWhen I did, Chris said the word Akaizer, so I looked it up.

I found Akaizer, an app that reproduces the time-stretching and pitch-shifting of Akai's old sampler.

ICON in 2014But it was picked up, it's a pretty old app, and the link itself was broken.

However, after a little searching, it was revived as "The AKAIZER Project" in February 2022.
(The version has also been updated to 2.4.)

No, it's wonderful.

I tried using it immediately, but it's certainly a good sound that doesn't come out with the recent time stretch.

If you like Lo-Fi, it's an app, but I'd like you to try it.

"The AKAIZER Project" is looking for donations.
(Can be done from "Donate" at the bottom, Paypal is also available)

It looks like a lot of work went into reviving it.

Sound demo

I tried time-stretching the classic Amen breakbeats.

I changed "TIME FACTOR" to 50% (double speed) and 200% (half speed).

Next, I set "TRANSPOSE" to -12 and then set "TIME FACTOR" to 200% (half speed).

I feel like I've heard it before.

Overview

Akaizer can time stretch (and/or pitch shift) any WAVE or AIFF sound file in the style of "cyclic" time stretching characteristic of older Akai sound samplers like the S950/S1000/S2000/S3000 series. Donationware application for Windows. It's perfect for those who want the metallic sounds of 1990s hardcore, jungle, and speed garage in their DAW without the Akai sampler.

OS

Windows [XP/Vista/7/8/10/11]

Download

You can download without registration.

Go to the above link and click "DOWNLOAD".

Installation

Since it is a standalone application, no installation is required.

When you unzip the downloaded file, "Akaizer.exe" is included, so you can use it immediately by running it.

Simple usage explanation

Since it is offline processing, the flow is to read the file, change the settings, preview, and save the file.

The "Play" button only plays the loaded sample, so changing the parameters will have no effect.

Click PREVIEW to hear the results of changing the parameters.

If the contents are good, click "SAVE FILE..." as it is and overwrite it with the same name, or save it with a different name.

file loading

Click "OPEN WAVE/AIFF FILE..." at the top of the screen to open the file browser, so open a Wav or AIFF audio file.

Parameter change

Change algorithms and parameters.

2022 10 05 12x02 08

Each parameter can be changed by dragging, but it is better to enter the value directly by double-clicking.

There are two algorithms and one option.

REVISED

REVISED refines the classic algorithm for perfect timing and fullness of sound, but with the trade-off that some settings cause the pitch to drift slightly away from the original key.

CLASSIC

CLASSIC simulates Akai's cyclic time stretching as closely as possible for perfect pitch, but with minor quirks such as poor timing.

ANTI-ALIASING

When pitch shifting upwards, disabling anti-aliasing can result in a more raw sound. For general use, we recommend keeping the anti-aliasing option enabled.

There are three basic parameters:

TIME FACTOR

A time factor of 50% halves the length of the note, 100% the normal length, 200% doubles the length, and so on.The default value of 2 is ideal for pitch shifting only.

You can set the ratio to time stretch.

CYCLE LENGTH

A lower Cycle Length value will give a more metallic effect and vice versa.

TRANSPOSE

A value of 12 will shift the pitch by 12 semitones (1 octave), a value of 24 will shift the pitch by 24 semitones (2 octaves), a value of -8 will shift the pitch by 8 semitones, and so on.The default value of 0 is ideal if you only want to timestretch.

Shortcut

Detailed shortcuts are provided.

The shortcuts are as follows.

Alt+E = Open WAVE or AIFF file
Alt+R = Select Revised Algorithm
Alt+C = Select Classic Algorithm
Alt+A = Toggle pitch shift/anti-aliasing on/off
Alt+1 = edit time factor value
Alt+2 = Edit Cycle length value
Alt+3 = Edit Transpose value
Alt+4 = Restore Time factor to default value
Alt+5 = Restore Cycle length to default value
Alt+6 = Reset Transpose to default value
Alt+L = Play open file
Alt+T = stop playback
Alt+O = toggle playback loop on/off
Alt+P = Preview processed sound
Alt+S = save processed sound to new file
Alt+I = Show "About"
Alt+F4 = Exit
Tab = cycle through each control
Shift+Tab = Cycle through controls, but control backwards

Summary

Although it cannot be processed offline in real time, I felt that it was worth using because the sound obtained could not be reproduced with the existing plug-ins.

Isn't it good to do offline processing once in a while?
