Overview of Soundspot Union

Union is SoundSpot's next-generation wavetable synthesizer audio plug-in with a unique wavetable generator that can create a harmoniously rich wavetable set from the output of Union's main oscillator.This is a technique often used by the world's best sound designers to create rich, deep sounds. Soundspot Union CPU load

The bottom line is that heavy use of Unison, effects, and modulation can be quite expensive.

When making it as a workaround, turning off Unison and effects is a little better.

CPU is measured at Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz.

It's time to start FL Studio.

This is the load when loading Union.

The load when playing 2 notes in the initialized state (unison with 4OSC, no effect) was about 7%.

Even if you generate a wavetable and play 3 sounds with 4OSC, the load does not change and it is about 7%.

When I set Unison to 3 for all oscillators, the load became 10%.

There are quite a few differences in sound, so please listen.

The first half is 3OSC with no Unison, and the second half is 3 oscillators with Unison 3.

The load itself seems to be strongly influenced by Unison, effects and modulation.

Usability of Soundspot Union

Oscillator

There are three Soundspot Union oscillators. OSC3 and OSC1 are common waveform selection type oscillators.

OSC3 is a new type and can be generated based on the settings of OSC1, OSC2 and FX.

Surprisingly, synths almost always come with it.There is no legato (portamento) function.

OSC1, OSC2

OSC1 and OSC2 are independent and the following settings can be made for each.

There are all the necessary functions.Unison is powerful out of 32 per oscillator.
However, there is no FM or other synthesis method.

OSC waveform (7 types)

I took a video that only sounded OSC1.
In the second round, UNISON is set to 2 (maximum) and it sounds.
(It is monaural that the sound is a little bad due to the influence of the video codec)

Parameters can be set for each oscillator from the magnifying glass icon.

There are three types of modulation sources for each parameter.

OSC3

The point is to generate a new waveform.

However, the generated WaveTable has little change in tone color on the way,It is not suitable for morphing and using WaveTable represented by Serum.

As shown below, there is little change in the waveform in the WaveTable, so there is little change in timbre.

WaveTable can be generated based on the parameters of OSC1 and OSC2.

A different wavetable will be generated each time you click GENELATE WAVE TABLE.

As a tendency to be generated, it seems that the edge of the wavetable (start and end) has a large amount of change.

The area around the center does not change much.

Once generated, the wavetable cannot be changed at all.

It changes when you change each parameter, so I think it's a way to search for the sound you like by changing it in various ways.

In addition to the parameters 3 and 1, Oscillator 2 has a WaveTable playback location and modulation function.

Since the parameters are the same, the explanation is broken.

Wave table

The left and right wavetables are Pan's left and right, respectively.

If you break the link, you can select wavetables at different positions on the left and right, but it is better not to break the link unless you use it specially.

Since the left and right waveforms sound separately, it feels out of phase and is unpleasant.

I prepared it with Mp3 because I can't understand it unless it's stereo.

It is a minus point that you can not read the wave table at all

Modulation source

Modulation sources can be broadly divided into those for oscillators and those for effects.

Oscillator modulation

Usage is common to all three oscillators.

ADSR (valid only for oscillators)

I think it is ADR because the sustain level cannot be adjusted rather than ADSR.

Other than that, it's the same as a normal synth.

MOD ADSR

Same as ADSR, but can be assigned to all parameters.

The assignment method can be assigned by clicking the circle at the bottom left of the parameter you want to assign.
(Determine which one is assigned by color. "MOD ADSR" is purple and "LFO" is blue)

LFO

The LFO has a high degree of freedom and can create various modulation curves.

Variants of the LFO waveform can be deleted by double-clicking to create a new point and double-clicking on the point.

It's a pity that there is no LFO preset.

The synchronization timing (lfo time), dotted and triple (lfo feel) can be automated from the DAW, so it can be used as a base for dubstep. (The following is the FL Studio screen)

Master effect

A total of 9 types of effects are installed, and all can be changed in order.

It's a common feature on synths that cost a few thousand yen or more, but at this price it's great.

Built-in effects

It's nice to have a lot of effects, but it's a shame that there are no presets for effects like the LFO.

 

Chorus

Distortion

Maybe it uses the same algorithm as Ravage.
However, if the input is not good enough, or if the input is large, it will not work at all.

So when I put Dynamics in the previous stage and lowered the input a little, it was distorted well.

First of all, I am applying modulation so that I can see if it is effective only with Distortion.

Next, if you put Dynamics in the previous stage and suppress the input with Comp.

Obviously this is more distorted.

When using distortion, it seems good to put Dynamics in the previous stage and adjust it.

I changed the threshold and checked the degree of distortion.

The middle of the threshold was the most distorted.

Delay

I think it's a normal delay.

As with all things, it's a little difficult to understand HP and LP.

Reverb

Personally, I don't like it because it has a strong metallic sound.

Dynamics

I think it's a full-fledged comp that comes with synths.

It is easy to use because you can check how it is hooked with the meter in the middle.

EQ

It's a true effect maker.

The EQ is also quite authentic and difficult to understand, but there are 4 bands.
However, the location is difficult to understand. (I didn't notice at first)

Flanger

I think this is neither good nor bad.

As with all effects, I want presets.

Phaser

Personally, I like this sound.

I personally like it a lot.
There are many types of filters, and it makes a pleasant sound.

Extended sound source

The list price is about 1,600 yen higher, but if it's on sale for 500 yen or less, you can buy it.
