Soft Limit has been an indispensable feature of Apogee converters since the AD-1991 released in 500.This simple and effective analog tape emulation is now available as a free audio plug-in for the first time.

During the development of the AD-500, we realized that while the new digital audio technology provided excellent performance and low distortion, the technical flaws in analog tape produced a pleasing sound that engineers wouldn't want to let go of. ..Therefore, we have developed a soft limit that places an analog circuit in front of the AD conversion stage, gracefully rounds the transients, and adds harmonic warmth.

Soft Limit is a feature that has been found in most Apogee AD converters since the AD-8000, Symphony I / O, and the latest Duet 3.

Adjustable soft limit threshold

The original Soft Limit circuit had a fixed Threshold, which limited its use. The Soft Limit plug-in can adjust the Threshold up to -18dBfs, allowing you to adjust the entire area of ​​the Soft Limit.

 

Auto make-up

When the auto make-up feature is turned on, lowering the soft limit threshold adds levels, allowing you to manage the gain perfectly and focus on achieving the desired sound.

Drive

To access the crunch side of the soft limit, the Drive knob allows ± 18 dB level trim before the soft limit.

Oversampling

Installation

Since the installation is an installer and it supports VST3, you can use the default as it is.

If you do not want to enter VST2 or AAX, check the check box only for VST3 and proceed.

It starts to distort quite easily, so I think it's better to use it for distorting with DRIVE, not in a clear direction.
