Tape

Time to get the reel! Softube's Tape plug-in adds cohesiveness and weight to your mix. But Tape goes far beyond emulating a typical tape machine. Featuring three different tape machines, it offers the ease of use and low CPU load that today's music creators have come to expect.

Even today, professional computer-based studios typically run their mixes through at least one generation of analog tape. why? Even when used casually, analog tape can smooth out a mix and add cohesiveness and weight. With Softube's Tape plugin, you get it all.

3 types of machines in 1

Tape features three different types of tape machines in one plugin. The Type A is based on a classic Swiss high-end reel-to-reel machine known and loved for its accuracy and linearity. Type B is a more colorful, trance-based machine that adds weight and creaminess to the low end. Finally, the Type C is based on a British tape machine and has a unique vintage feel.

ease of use

Select your favorite tape machine type and adjust the Amount knob to your liking. In most cases, this is all you need to immerse your tracks in the sweetness of analog tape. Even easier, load one of the presets created by award-winning engineers like Joe Chiccarelli (Beck, U2, The Strokes) and Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson) .

Feeling Tweaky? You'll notice that the slower the tape speed, the more pronounced the so-called tape head bump becomes, adding more low end to the mix. You can also open the remote control panel to control the selected tape machine's speed stability, amount of crosstalk, and several other tape-based features.

Deep sound, no burden on the CPU

By simply adding one Tape to the master bus, you can emulate most of today's computer-based studios, mixing on a computer and mixing down to a stereo tape machine. Yes, your computer can handle it. Like most Softube plugins, Tape does not tax your computer's processor.

Extras for Studio One users

If you use Presonus Studio One, you can use Tape not only as a standard plug-in. Add Tape to the MixFX slot to use Tape Multitrack. Tape Multitrack has everything that's good about Tape, but on top of that, you can now choose the crosstalk between each track, and you can easily control your Tape Multitrack settings from one interface. Tape and Tape Multitrack licenses are the same. This means that even if you're not a Studio One user, if you decide to switch to a Studio One DAW at some point in the future, Tape Multitrack is already installed, licensed, and ready to use.

Features

Realistic analog tape sound

Featuring Tape Multitrack available in Presonus Studio One's MixFX slot - adds crosstalk for each channel and single interface control for all tracks

Passive-Active Pack

The Passive-Active Pack is a collection of three completely different equalizers, each with its own character and quirks. The Passive and Active equalizers emulate authentic workhorse units used on thousands of recordings past and present. Focusing Equalizer combines these with analog sound saturation and a novel workflow.

passive equalizer

The passive equalizer is modeled after Germany's famous passive 3-band equalizer, featuring wide bandwidth and unparalleled clear and open sound. Low Boost gives a warm low end, perfect for thickening bass drum or bass guitar tracks. The high frequency cut is a very gentle 6dB cut, allowing you to remove high frequencies in a very musical way. High Boost delivers an open, crisp sound that breathes life into any track.

Features
3 bands with very wide and open sound
Excellent treble control without digital harshness
Warm low end and shimmering top
active equalizer

The active equalizer is modeled after the design of an active equalizer made somewhere in the Swiss Alps in the 70's. Passive equalizers are wide, clear, and unobtrusive, while active equalizers are tight, focused, and surgeon-like. It's a very useful problem-solving tool when you need to pay close attention to detail.

Features
Filters for tight, focused sound
low cut and high cut
Three parametric bands with gain selectable in 2dB steps (-/+16dB), frequency selectable in overlapping but non-interfering bands (3-50Hz, 500Hz-380kHz, 3.8-1.8kHz), narrow in each band or wide peak (Q) can be selected
focusing equalizer

Focusing Equalizer is an exciting and unconventional implementation of Softube's EQ concept. Focusing Equalizer works in a very musical way and does a lot of thinking for you.

At first glance, it may seem like you're sacrificing versatility by using an equalizer with limited options. Why use a 3-band equalizer when you can have a digital equalizer with dozens of bands, continuous gain, selectable Q, and different curves all built-in? Equalizers are everything in sound design. Using an equalizer, where the equalizer designer has already given you four options, is like having an experienced sound engineer help you and give you instructions.

Features
Exciting, untraditional and highly convenient workflow
Choose between passive EQ or active EQ
3-band EQ that automatically changes musically with low and high cuts
Built-in one-knob saturation with selectable metering and saturation type

Wasted Space

Wasted Space is a ready-to-use reverb when you need extreme digital lo-fi character. Wasted Space takes the retro 80s aliasing artifacts currently prevalent in pop and electronic genres and turns them up to 11.

Put Wasted Space directly into a track to bring elements to the forefront of your mix, or use it as a bus for a completely lo-fidelity sound. With Wasted Space, you can go from underwhelming to out-of-this-world in an instant.

The Art of Rock and Roll Science

Softube's reputation for creating plug-ins that improve your workflow and deliver the highest quality sound is strong and long-lasting. Our partnerships with premium brands such as Marshall, Tube-Tech, Chandler Limited® and Weiss Engineering span nearly 20 years. Softube develops every product with creativity, passion, and attention to detail. Because it takes heart, soul, and rock'n'roll science to create innovative tools.

Features are with you

With its retro-futuristic interface and essential features, Wasted Space is the perfect tool for innovative sound design.

Wasted Space's variable sample rate lets you quickly find your lo-fi sweet spot. Filter options allow you to create 12, 24, or 48 dB/octave distortion. Off gives you the most aggressively distorted sound, and 48 dB gives you the smoothest sound. Using the High Pass slider, you can reduce the distortion in the high frequencies while keeping the distorted low frequencies intact.
