Overview
Reels is a tape emulation plug-in with a built-in echo section and tape stop effect.
Based on a Japanese portable tape recorder, Reels reproduces the characteristic Lo-Fi sound of analog sound.
We modeled the frequency response and saturation of three types of 3/1 “tapes, and reproduced all the drawbacks of analog during tape recording / playback.
Reels add a very rough retro analog sound to your mix.If you are looking for emulation of Hi-Fi mastering tapes, this is not a plugin for you!
Portable tape recorder
Reels is based on the Japanese vintage reel-to-reel, which is ironically marked High Fidelity. Many of these consumer tape recorders have a very rough Lo-Fi analog sound, partly because of their age.
During recording and playback, along with regular tape hiss, motor noise limits the bandwidth available on the tape and somehow bleeds in.
The reels reproduce all the imperfections of the consumer reel-to-reel vintage recorder.
