The 727 is a companion to the 707 “Latin Percussion”.These sounds from countless Chicago house, early Italo, and acid records are iconic and very useful for injecting retro percussive funk into your tracks.
Also, as a spice, all drum hits were tuned 30 times on a tape machine for a perfect semitone.Slow Mu whistles, deep bongos, all bells and whistles, all crazy tape-tuned percussive hits.
Overview
Like the 707, the 727 has a very punchy sound, but to maintain this punch, we captured the cleanest possible sound.The tape adds analog punch and crunch, so I captured the raw sound straight through the Apogee Symphony converter.
The original sound of this machine is very perfect, but only one tuning is offered per voice, which greatly limits the flexibility of this unit.No matter what I do, I get stuck with the "sound of that 1".Don't get me wrong, the sound is great, but it's not always what you're looking for.Also, even if you can digitally tune in your DAW, you can lose the hardware atmosphere along the way.
To remedy this, we recorded each hit on tape at 15 Yips with a C-sine sine wave.Then play the tape at 30 different speeds (from lower than 7.5 Yips to higher than 30 Yips) and tune the sine wave with a guitar tuner to get 30 full chromatic pitches on all drums. I was able to get it.The result is that you can get more mileage on these sounds.
