I wrote an article that AudioDamage's legacy plug-in became free, but I will write an article that introduces recommendations in it.

It's good that it's free, but I think it's hard to understand how to use it because there is no manual.

Therefore, it is an article that I will introduce including simple operation methods.

In the first installment, I will introduce the tattoo of the drum machine sound source that I actually purchased.

Tattoo is a synth-based drum sound source, equipped with a sequencer, the pattern can be controlled by MIDI notes, and each part can be played by MIDI notes.

It also has MIDI out, so you can play other drum machines.

I tried playing the preset.

I added Bass.

Isn't it good for IDM or Techno?

Overview

The first Audio Damage instrument, Tattoo, is a drum synthesizer that reborn the old one. With 0 independent "voice tuning" synthesizer topologies based on the X12X series and a sophisticated step / mod sequencer, Tattoo is suitable for all forms of electronic music production.

Features

  • 12 types of drum synths. Tattoo has 12 different tones and uses Audio Damage's custom D-Plane synthesis instead of the common tones found in many drum synth plug-ins.

  • Sophisticated Step Sequencer Tattoo's internal sequencer takes grid programming to the "next level".

  • Randomization over days. There are multiple routes to randomize the beat, from subtle ghost notes to full heiwa.

  • Parameter Sequence All synth parameters have their own sequencer and can be randomized.

  • Synchronized Tattoo can be operated by an internal sequencer, host sync, and note sync (stepping the sequencer with MIDI notes). In this way, Tattoo can run any time signature and synchronize with any groove template on any host sequencer.

  • MIDI input. Tattoo's MIDI implementation includes all parameters and complete MIDI learning for MIDI pattern switching. You can also use MIDI note input instead of Tattoo's built-in sequencer to access the randomization feature and modding sequencer.

  • MIDI output. Tattoo sends MIDI output for all note events, including randomization, so any host that can be MIDI-routed from a plug-in instrument can use its step sequencer with other drum synths and samplers (or whatever). You can also drive a musical instrument).

  • Audio Output Tattoo has 6 stereo outputs. The first bass is a modified version of Kombinat's “One Knob Compressor” with a little (or more) squeeze.

Installation (Win)

The answer is that the installer is included and it is VST2, so if the installation path is different, you need to fix it yourself.

Most VST2 folders are one of the following:

C:Program FilesVSTPlugIns
C \ Program Files \ Steinberg \ VST Plugins
C \ Program Files \ Steinberg \ Cubase \ VSTPlugins
C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ VST2
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\VST2

Easy to use

Sound with the internal sequencer

Tattoo has a sequencer inside.

The default is the mode (Host) linked to the DAW, so you don't have to worry about it at first, but if you change to another mode, you need to set "SYNC" to "Host" to make it sound in the internal sequencer.

In the default preset, nothing is input to the sequencer, but the last preset (24 or later) is input to the sequencer.

Change the pattern of the sequencer with MIDI notes

You can change the pattern of the sequencer using MIDI notes.

In the case of "FL Studio", it is from C5.
(I think the other DAW is C3)

Play each part with a MIDI note

You can edit it with the DAW piano roll.

You can also play MIDI from other drum machines as long as you match the Map of the MIDI note.

The setting is OK if you change "SYNC" to "MIDI note".

If you leave it as "Host", it will sound on both the sequencer sound and the MIDI note.

Summary

Depending on the genre, it may still be a sound that can be used sufficiently.

At first, the default volume is low, so it feels like it's not good, but if you adjust the volume, it will be solid.
