Overview

Get Low – As one famous vocalist once sang, "It's all about the bass" and as far as most genres of music are concerned, she's right!

Bassline balance is always a big challenge for producers, especially during the mixing stage, as the dynamic range in the low frequencies is so large.Leaving the bassline untouched can throw off the balance of the rest of the mix, but too much compression can suck the life out of a lively bass sound. Then what should I do?

That's where Fundamental Bass comes in.It provides an easy way to tighten up low-end dynamics while preserving the crispness and sparkle of the mids and highs. This processing is achieved with an adjustable frequency split and handled by two independent modules. The low band is clear and mono-responsive with twin compressors and imaging adjustments. The high band adds compression and grit to enhance natural overtones while maintaining bass bounce.

With convenient parameters and comprehensive presets, you won't have to worry about where to set the frequency split for maximum dance floor destruction.

Splitting low and high frequencies

The main concept of Fundamental Bass is how to split the audio into high and low frequency modules for independent processing. This mixing method smoothly compresses the low frequencies without losing the excitement of the high-mid dynamics. The green (low) and yellow (high) color-coded modules make it easy to see which band you're adjusting, and each has its own on/off button, gain slider, and mix ratio controls. It has a dial.

raw module

The Balance dial sets the compression level with up to -60dB attenuation.Make-up gain is applied automatically. The Flatten dial is a more aggressive compressor, used to even out the dynamics of bouncy basslines and wide dynamic range acoustic material.Experiment with these two compression types to control your bass while maintaining your groove.

high module

Use the Balance dial to introduce gentle compression, and the Drive dial to add a little (or a lot) of stiffness to your sound. At low levels you get tube-style saturation, and when pushed hard you get full distortion.By carefully adjusting this control, you can add shimmering top end to your basslines while keeping your low end clean and clear.

High Pass & Low Pass Filter

Simply drag to set the lower frequency limit for a clearer separation between kick and bass.It can also remove pesky high frequencies that compete with other instruments.Just set the limit using the low pass filter handle.

Split stereo imaging

An old producer's trick is to make the bassline mono. This allows for a more effective kick and bite and a wider range of playback systems. Fundamental Bass features independent stereo imaging sliders for the Low and High modules, making this trick easy.By setting the low module to mono and the high module to stereo, you can center the stray lows while maintaining a lively top end.

mix & balance

With independent gain controls for the high and low modules and a mix ratio dial for parallel processing, Fundamental Bass can be used for both subtle changes and powerful expressive makeovers.A master clipper smooths out the dynamics of the audio coming out, and an output level slider lets you set precise levels for precise A/B with pop-free bypass controls.

visual feedback

A live frequency display at the top of the interface shows exactly how the signal is being processed in real time.Green and yellow meters are correlated with the high and low modules so you can visually monitor exactly what is happening as you change parameters.

preset

With many factory and artist presets included, it's easy to find the perfect starting point for your own bass tone.Tailored for specific bass characteristics or other instruments, these factory options can be used to quickly cycle through parameter snapshots.Presets include everything from full-range bass compression to frequency-specific transforms.
