ADSR's purchase benefits have been updated.

This month, discoDSP's mania seems to be happyFM Synth OPL ($49 value).

I tried to ring it a little.

Sound peculiar to FM is easily provided and is good.

Overview

OPL is a digital speech synthesis chip developed by Yamaha in the mid-1980s.It was used in sound cards for PCs, such as ad-lib cards and the early Sound Blaster series.

Overview

This instrument provides an emulation of the OPL sound chip. It provides all the features of OPL2 and some features of OPL3.

What is OPL?

At a technical level, the emulator has channels made up of two oscillators each. Each pair of oscillators is typically coupled via phase modulation (basically frequency modulation).

Each oscillator can generate one of eight waveforms (sine, half sine, absolute sine, quarter sine, alternating sine, camel sine, square, logarithmic sawtooth) and has an ADSR envelope that controls its amplitude. I'm here. The unusual waveform creates a distinctive sound.

How do you use it?

Each instance of the plugin emulates the entire OPL chip, but in this plugin we are basically just dealing with two operators: carrier and modulator.

.SBI file

An SBI file is an instrument file format originally developed by Creative Labs for the Sound Blaster long ago.Basically it works as a preset for this plugin.Just drag and drop it into the plugin window.

percussion

Percussion mode now supported! This mode is not very well documented, even in Yamaha's original documentation. There are also more detailed notes about percussion modes based on experiments with real hardware.

Bass drum: use both operators. Is it basically just doubling the output amplitude?

Snare: Use carrier setting. Abs-sine waveform recommended.

Tom: Use Modulator settings.Sine waveform recommended.

Cymbals: Use carrier setting.Half sign recommended.

Hi-hat: Uses modulator settings.Half sign recommended.
